Termites

This portion of the Southeast in which you live has the highest rate of termite incidence and labels termites as extremely "economically significant" with respect to the millions, if not billions, of dollars in damage they cause each year.

Regardless of the construction style of your home, whether it is wood, brick, stone, or stucco-Mediterranean, termites can gain entry. They can enter your home by exploiting masonry seams, expansion joints, open bath trap voids, following plumbing and electrical conduit and even by climbing your foundation gap. Termites need as little as only 1/64" to gain entry. For homes with fixed veneers such as brick, stone, or stucco, termites can penetrate behind such exterior coverings unseen, especially where the soil grade obscures any existing foundation gaps.

By keeping mulch and soil at a reasonable level and directing excessive moisture sources away from your foundation (rain downspouts, irrigation, HVAC condensation drips) you greatly reduce the risk of termite infestation to your home.
